Kia America has announced plans to offer North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters for its EV6 and EV9 vehicles. Customers who take delivery of a new 2024 or 2025 Kia EV9 or 2024 Kia EV6 from September 4, 2024, onwards, will receive a free adapter, enabling them to access over 16,500 NACS DC fast chargers across the United States. This move is expected to significantly enhance the ownership experience for Kia EV customers.
The adapters will be available in three types: NACS to CCS1, CCS1 to NACS, and J1772 to NACS. These adapters will allow existing Kia EVs to DC fast charge, as well as enable NACS-equipped Kia EVs to charge on existing CCS DC chargers and AC-charge on Level 2 chargers.
In early 2025, Kia EV owners will also have the ability to pay for charging via the Kia Access app, once a vehicle software upgrade is completed. This will allow them to search, locate, and navigate to available charge points through their EV infotainment screen and compatible smartphones, including charger availability, status, and pricing.
This initiative by Kia America underscores its commitment to providing the best ownership experience for its EV customers. With access to a vast network of DC fast chargers, Kia EV owners can now feel even more confident in their ability to reach far-flung destinations on electricity.
