On September 19th, Arm China launched its new line of multimedia processors under the “Linglong” brand at a press event in Beijing. The company introduced its first locally-developed display processors, the Linglong D8, D6, and D2, along with new video processors, the Linglong V510 and V710. These innovations are designed to meet the growing demand for ultra-high-definition video and cloud-based applications.
The Linglong DPU (Display Processing Unit) series supports 4K and 8K ultra-high-definition displays, catering to smart devices like AI-driven cars, PCs, and smart TVs. The flagship D8 processor can handle 8K video at 60 frames per second (fps), while the D6 and D2 models offer more power-efficient options for lower-end displays, with the D2 focusing on IoT applications. Each chip boasts advanced image processing with enhanced scaling and HDR support.
On the video side, the Linglong V510 and V710 Video Processing Units (VPUs) feature a unified architecture that integrates both encoding and decoding in a single core, a breakthrough that cuts down memory usage. The V710, aimed at cloud applications like cloud gaming, supports up to 8K video at 120 fps, making it ideal for demanding multi-stream environments.
