At the Meta Connect 2024 event on September 25, CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled Meta’s latest innovations, including the Orion AR glasses and a celebrity-voiced AI chatbot. Orion is Meta’s first fully functioning prototype of augmented reality glasses, showcasing groundbreaking capabilities like see-through holographic displays that overlay virtual elements onto the real world. Zuckerberg believes Orion could eventually replace smartphones, with features like video calls, web browsing, and real-time interactions through a sleek, lightweight design.

In addition to Orion, Meta introduced a new AI chatbot feature with voices from celebrities like Judi Dench, enhancing its AI services by offering users engaging, voice-based interactions. The chatbot is part of Meta's broader push into AI, with advancements like real-time language translation integrated into the AR glasses, enabling fluid conversations across languages.

While the Orion glasses remain in prototype form, Meta plans to continue development and provide select developers with early access to build AR applications. A consumer release is expected in the coming years, although an exact date hasn't been confirmed.
Meta’s vision for the future is clear: they aim to seamlessly blend physical and digital worlds through wearable tech that is accessible and intuitive.
