Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has unveiled the world’s smallest multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC), measuring just 0.16mm x 0.08mm (006003-inch). This new development is a major leap from the previous smallest size (008004-inch), reducing volume by approximately 75%. With dimensions of L/W/T = 0.16mm × 0.08mm × 0.08mm, this ultra-compact MLCC meets the ever-growing demands for miniaturization in modern electronics.
As devices like smartphones, tablets, and wearables become sleeker and more powerful, the need for smaller, high-performance components is critical. The rise of 5G, IoT, and AI technologies has further fueled demand for compact MLCCs, as modern smartphones can require up to 1,000 capacitors.
Murata, a global leader in the MLCC market with a 31% share, has long been at the forefront of this technology. The company’s success stems from its mastery of material science, manufacturing precision, and commitment to quality.
This breakthrough will debut at CEATEC JAPAN 2024 in October and is poised to revolutionize the electronic components industry, driving further innovation across consumer electronics, automotive, and industrial sectors.
Murata’s latest innovation paves the way for higher density installations in increasingly complex devices, signaling an exciting future for tech miniaturization.
