RoboSense, a leading company in the LiDAR industry, has reportedly ventured into embodied intelligence by forming a robotics R&D team. This move marks a significant step beyond its core strength in LiDAR for automotive applications, with the company now targeting advanced robotics technology. The new team includes Wang Tao, a former research director at Blue Fat Robot and a former Intel China researcher, adding valuable expertise to the initiative.
RoboSense has already established strong relationships with major car manufacturers, including XPeng, BYD, Geely, and SAIC, and holds a 21% share of the global automotive LiDAR market, second only to Hesai. The company's LiDAR technology is crucial for autonomous driving systems, particularly for NOA-level urban driving, thanks to its high-precision measurement capabilities. By expanding into robotics, RoboSense aims to leverage its experience in automotive-grade mass production and LiDAR technology to create intelligent hardware for robotics, which shares common ground with the optical, mechanical, and computational systems used in autonomous vehicles.
This move is significant as the embodied intelligence sector continues to grow, although much of the industry's products are still in early development stages, and widespread commercial viability may take time.
