Samsung has officially announced the mass production of its new PM9E1 PCIe 5.0 SSD, delivering impressive performance gains over previous models. Powered by Samsung's eighth-generation V-NAND flash and a self-developed 5nm controller, the PM9E1 offers sequential read speeds of up to 14.5 GB/s and write speeds of 13 GB/s—more than double that of its predecessor, the PM9A1.
Available in 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities, the PM9E1 also features a 50% improvement in power efficiency, making it a strong choice for power-sensitive applications, such as mobile devices and edge AI workloads. The SSD also integrates SPDM v1.2 security technology, providing enhanced protection against supply chain attacks.
Samsung plans to ship the PM9E1 SSDs to global PC manufacturers, with consumer-level PCIe 5.0 drives expected to follow soon. According to Bae Yong-Cheol, Executive VP of Storage Product Planning at Samsung, this next-gen SSD will play a crucial role in supporting the rapid growth of AI applications by offering industry-leading efficiency and performance.
